So they've announced that there will be 5 man dungeons in Wrath of the Lich King. I took this as very good news as they really haven't done a 5 man dungeon experience since Dire Maul. This should make it zero problem to get a group together. There will be of course 10 man dungeons and 25 man still :)
Frostmourne, a legendary sword will be available for players to acquire. Its obviously an extremely rare drop off the final boss and frankly since its a curse blade I'd wonder what blizzard has in store for it.
The new races are being fleshed out more with the Tuskaar, a Walrus like race allying themselves with the horde. I'm still curious if Alliance can speak with them but nonetheless one thing that seems important is fishing. They have a whaling society so I'm guessing this is Blizzards way of trying to force people to fish. The lousiest profession in the game.

I haven't had a chance to play the expansion yet...I am just going to comment on what I have read.
Essentially they are going to open up an entire new continent in azeroth...good its needed and earned. I will appreciate walking through northrend...and hopefully seeing some places I saw in warcraft 3. So far the environments are promised to not just be ice and snow which again I think is a good feature.
We've also been informed of a few new races we'll encounter such as a walrus race...an offshoot of the tauren, and a recently returned ancient race of giants apparently.
But on to what is disappointing me. The new class, the new profession, and the flying mount.
We are going to be introduced to the first hero class in world of warcraft. A promise that was made ages ago. The hero class is the deathknight. It will have very different powers and abilities then other classes being a hybrid. Its both a melee/tank and spellcaster though more on the necromantic side. It will be able to tank, however it tanks with 2 handed weapons only. The deathknight does not use a shield.
So what's disappointing? You do a quest to unlock the ability to create a deathknight but that's it. It will start out around level 58 or 60 but so what?Its essentially just another class to play. Its not a case of, I am a warrior, so I do the quest and then choose deathknight to become a warrior/deathknight which was what I was hoping for. To me it shouldn't even be called a hero class. Its just another class now.
The next is the new profession inscription...early rumours had me believe this would be the etching or scribing of runes on sword, armour, etc... instead you write scrolls to make new spells or improve existing spells. Ho Hum...welcome to everquest and every other game with inscription in it. It may still be fun, but I was just disappointed that they are cloning a well used idea I guess.
Lastly the flying mount. People scrounge, save, and work to get 5000 gold to ride their epic flying mounts. When they get to northrend, they can't use it. They are still debating what to do about it. Give us a quest to complete to do it or just not use it. Personally I think its time they opened up azeroth to flying mounts. Oh well.

That is easily one of the most fun instances I have ever done. Its essentially one big escort quest...where you have to escort thrall out as he makes his escape from durnholde keep.
The issue with the dungeon though is it is an escort quest that doesn't stop, a player dies, Thrall keeps going along happily. He's smart enough to not attack anything that is trapped or sheeped, but not to stop for heals or mana. A short break point would be nice...though this way it does make it challenging.

First and foremost I've been away for several days, so sorry for the lack of posts..this place usually isn't updated on a timetable anyway but I like to keep a few updates going at least.
My character Cordonus hit level 65, (I have been procrastinating getting to 70 to try and enjoy the content), and overall its been fun.
My last posts talked about professions and touched on blacksmithing as that's what my character is. Toka kindly responded about tailoring and mages and how its just as bad. To those that don't understand, tailoring creates cloth armour as well as bags among other things, and generally classes that wear cloth take them..not always true but it has been the general idea for a while.
I wanted to mention though about the gathering skills as well...specifically mining. The reason I mention it is that as a high level miner I am constantly asked where is the best place to mine thorium. Well the answer is...no where.
You start mining buy getting copper, move up to tin, then bronze, then silver, and so forth and before the expansion the last thing you mined was thorium. Thorium is very hard to find as there are a huge amount of miners on ever server and despite them spawning in high level areas...its still hard to compete with other level 60 +.
Since the expansion it has been easier...but as they also introduced jewel crafting which requires mining...it sort of made that point moot.
So my recommendations are to tough it out until you hit outland..it will be a while but you'll make it.
Again I am only pointing out mining as that is my direct experience...I don't know how bad or easy it is to obtain cloth, herbalism I think is right up there with mining, and skinning well...you can always find something to skin...unless you don't survive.

Nearly every MMO has them. Professions...how you make your way in the world...make money to buy that inn room...to heal your pets...to run for political office, buy that hooker...oh way sorry...pleasure provider...
Yet nearly all professions are not money makers like gathering is. I'll explain.
In World of Warcraft, if you are a miner and a blacksmith...you make money from mining..gathering ore and jewels...not from blacksmithing.
Blacksmithing provides armour and weapons, but factually...the armour and weapons pale in comparison to what you can find in dungeons, just generally killing things, or even from quest rewards. Then the weapons or armour that are worth having, contain materials that are so difficult to find it really makes them not worth it.
And this is true of all professions...the stuff you really want is always too expensive.
My own response for correcting this would be to mandatorily set prices of materials on the auction house very low and allow people to set their own prices for weapons and armour but that of course won't solve the issue.
Blizzard on the other hand has decided to reduce the costs of some plans and raise the costs of other. Will this fix the problem? I'll let you know if I ever sell a hammer of the titans.
I got asked this question not too long ago and I had to give it some serious thought. To be honest not much can topple wow in the current market. Vanguard or warhammer might, but they are very system resource intensive so I would rule that out.
In all honesty though I think there are several games that could possibly knock wow out of its current dominance of the market. One of them is the MMO being developed by Bioware...the creators of Baldur's Gate. I'm curious what they will come up with and I have really enjoyed there games...so that could be some serious competition.
Two would be a Star Wars MMO that doesn't suck. Current incarnations are compeltely and utterly horrible. Now a game based on the Knights of the Old Republic...that would dominate WoW.
Three will likely be time itself. I don't care how popular a game is, over time people move on, find other things to do...eventually this will happen to wow.
Oh well, guess we'll all see...and yes I could have listed more examples but meh.
